A Court of Thornes and Roses had not crossed my radar prior to all the hype and photos of beautiful editions on Instagram. The reviews I read all held high praise for the author and series. I was not sure it would live up to my expectations. I broke down and purchased a paperback copy from Amazon. As soon as they delivered it, I opened the cover and dove in headfirst. Wow!! This re-telling of Beauty and the Beast did not disappoint. The storyline was intricate and phenomenal. The characters were genuine, flawed and well developed. A slow burn, enemies-to-lovers romance danced across the pages. This book was reminiscent of my favorite young adult fantasy authors, but the added sexual aspect brought it to a new level. I cannot emphasize how much I adored Feyre and Tamlin’s push and pull relationship. The way their well-written personalities meshed added to their blossoming relationship. The other relationships within the pages were perfect. Intricately tying the entire plot together with murder, loyalty, hatred, love, and friendship. I wanted to hate Rhysand, but just could not. The depth written into his character would not allow it. There were a few minor things within the story that were not perfect. None of these things were enough to change my opinion. Feyre’s poor me, I am a stupid, ignorant mortal attitude became redundant. As a reader, I already knew she was not that at all. The creative license used regarding the ability of the fae to lie was tough to swallow. It goes against everything ingrained in my mind about fae. Did it hurt the plot? Absolutely not. Overall, this was a fantastic novel full of all my favorite things. If you have not jumped on the bandwagon, I recommend you do! I am about to click the buy now button on book two of the series.
Goodreads Blurb:
When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world.
At least, he’s not a beast all the time.
As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.
