This was a unique and interesting take on the supernatural witchy romance. Aubry, a kitchen witch in Memphis, receives a strange request. A mother whose daughter is missing asks Aubry to perform a séance to help locate her. Aubry has never done a séance on her own, but she feels compelled to help this woman out. Somehow, something goes awry, and Aubry finds that Damion, an aqua-eyed cambion, a human-demon hybrid, has possessed her. The dynamic and inter-dialogue between the two is slow burn spicy from the start, and so much fun. Wow! The sexual tension between the two is hot! I loved the way the author developed Aubry’s possession. Having the two characters be able to work together at points yet also close the other out when needed was an original use of the possession storyline. Coming to trust each other, the two learn to use the possession as an advantage and it holds the plot together. There is mystery and intrigue following the death of Aubry’s best friend. The author throws a curveball when a crazed man kidnaps Aubry and her friend. I kept turning the pages because of the story’s twists and turns. The entire plot was deeper than just Aubry and Damion trying to find a way for Damion to be released from Aubry’s body and the excellently written and developed storyline and characters were delightful to read. The interactions were genuine, and the banter between characters kept me chuckling. Grandma Viv was the best. From the beginning to the end, the story flowed perfectly. I enjoyed their company throughout the pages. This is a spicy new series for readers to enjoy. I highly recommend this Memphis Magic series debut. It is perfect for paranormal romance lovers! This book earned five out of five stars from me!
Special thanks to the author, Andrea Hagan, for providing this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Goodreads Blurb:
They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I’m learning that lesson the hard way. My name’s Aubry Brooks, and here’s the thing—I’ve got myself a little possession problem.
Yes, I led a séance I had no business leading in the first place. No, I’m not a channeler, but let me explain. I was only trying to help a mother find her missing daughter, and then a cocky half-incubus had the nerve to possess me! You’d think a clairvoyant kitchen witch would have seen this coming.
No need to panic. I can figure out a way to exorcise Damion Blackmon, assuming I can withstand his seduction in the meantime. Oh, and he’s agreed to help me find out who killed my best friend. Deals with devils. I’m not sure if it’s my soul or my heart that’s at risk.
But don’t worry, my grandma was a voyeur in a past life and she’ll catch you up to speed. In extremely graphic detail. A word of warning—do not let my aunt talk you into a juice cleanse. Nothing magic about that, I promise.
